Introduction to the bible study. Into His Marvelous Light

This study is short but packed with a lot of information. Lots of questions and lots of answers we are looking for.

The bible is a complex book that calls us to study. We are required by God to learn more about it.

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

When studying the word we can’t take anything at face value. The Old Testament was written in the Hebrew language and the new Testament was written in the Greek language. So when we study the scriptures we must look at the respective language to see what some words truly mean. The strings concordance is a very helpful resource to give us definitions. Sometimes we have to look at the culture of that day to get true meaning of some passages. That sounds like a lot but it really isn’t when we get a love for the word. The most important thing is to follow the word as it is given to us, taking nothing away from or adding anything as well, Revelation 22:18. If you feel the call of the Spirit to know more then God will give you the strength to be obedient to His word.

2 Corinthians 4:3-5 (KJV) 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

The Bible isn’t about religion, its about experience. Our purpose in life is to reach others with the gospel (the good news of Jesus Christ). It is not about numbers on a church pew. Now the Bible does instruct us to go to church but The MOST IMPORTANT thing in life is to have an active relationship with Jesus Christ. It is above all else. Our relationship with Jesus will give you specific directions.

When we read the Bible we learn the personality of God. We learn what pleases Him and what does not. If you love Him, you will keep his commandments. The Bible is our road map to heaven.

Yes, heaven is real. And as real as heaven is, there is a very real hell. I wish I could say everyone goes to heaven but that would make the Bible to be not important. If everyone goes to heaven then what would be the point of reading the Bible or even going to church. You could do what ever you wanted and still spend eternity in heaven but that’s not how it works.

I’ll be honest, I really don’t like telling folks about hell. It really sounds so negative and judgmental but if I don’t teach it, how will anyone know. I am not anyone’s judge. If I judge, then I am judged myself. It’s not my job to call out anyone but it is my responsibility to speak and teach the word as it is written. If I don’t tell everyone the truth then I have miserably failed. The Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Psalms 119:105 but it is also a sword!

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Sometimes the Word makes us uncomfortable but that is the Spirit of God calling us out of where we are and into a higher spiritual calling. When we feel bad about our actions or lack of actions, that is called conviction. Think of it this way, when we, as human beings, are comfortable we have no desire to move. We are content to stay just as we are. We generally we have to become uncomfortable before we get up and move. One way the Spirit calls us, is to open our eyes to see our true spiritual state. And trust me when I say we all have another level to attain, no one has “arrived”. In order to be saved we have to realize we are lost and must do something to be saved. We must have faith in Christ Jesus, believe that He rewards those that seek Him and actively seek Him. And we must be obedient to all of His Word. We can’t pick and choose what we want to do or not do.

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

We must believe all of the Word or none at all! Which sounds really harsh but think about it, if you think one thing in the Bible isn’t true then it becomes fallible (it can fail) but the scriptures tell us it absolutely cannot fail! Every single word is absolutely true. How do I know that for certain? Because God created everything by speaking it into existence so if He said it then it is! If He decided to say that a yellow crayon is now purple then it is changed for all eternity. He is God!

2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The Scriptures are God breathed!

So with all that said, I want us to open our minds and hearts as we open the scriptures. I pray that we learn from the Word and allow the Spirit of God to change us to be more like Him. Pay attention to how the words move you and allow the Spirit to change you!
